3 quick tips to get an internship in IT.

Many people who are attending college or who are finishing some technical course (as was my case) are looking for internships. This is indeed an excellent opportunity to gain market experience and the most important at the beginning of a career: networking.

It is also common to see people frustrated because they have tried several times to apply for this type of job without success. So, here are 5 tips to help you achieve your dream stage.

1 - Create a different curriculum for each vacancy:

A common mistake for those who are just starting out is to write a (often excellent) resume and then go around distributing this resume to dozens or even hundreds of internship positions. This is not an advisable attitude, it is recommended that you create a more generic curriculum template and for each job you are going to apply, set aside some time, study the company that is offering the job and prepare a CV aimed at this company and for this vacancy.

For example:

If you are applying for an internship position in customer support, you can highlight your skills related to interpersonal communication or your ability to teach people about something on your resume.

Or if you are applying for a development stage position, give more focus to previously developed projects, perhaps some recognition that you have (having been in the top places in a Hackathon for example) or something more related to your technical skills.

By doing this you will be giving the contracting company what they really want to know about you. Believe me, between distributing several generic résumés and distributing some résumés really designed for those vacancies, the second option will save you a lot of effort.

2 - Apply for jobs that really make sense:

Often in the anxiety of being called, we apply for all the vacancies that we see ahead. However, this kind of attitude can leave you frustrated or worse, it can make you enter a stage that will not please you and will become a burden.

When looking for internship vacancies, check the requirements of the vacancy and also check the purpose of the vacancy. Apply only to jobs that you judge to be "made for you", that is, jobs that fit your professional profile.

It's not worth doing an internship for the sake of it... Treat the internship as your chance to get the experience you need for an effective job, don't go out grabbing any opportunity you see ahead without first analyzing whether it really makes sense for you.

3 - Make your name noticed:

Most likely, if you are looking for an internship position, you are starting your career, that is, people, companies and the market do not know you as a professional. In this way, it is necessary to show the world that you exist. Here are some ways to do this:

- LinkedIn: Be active on this social network, share, comment and most importantly, don't be shy about not being an ultra expert in something. Publicize courses you are taking and projects related to your area.

- Professional Groups: Search your city or neighboring cities for groups of people who work in the area you want to work. It is not difficult to find, for example: "Python developers group from São Paulo" or "frontend developers group from Curitiba", join these groups.
